Remodelling of a cottage in Portobello in Dublin 8.

Our client approached us after purchasing a small cottage in Portobello, Dublin. It had been extended sometime in the 1980’s and was in dire need of refurbishment. The internal arrangement was maze-like and quality of living space and daylight poor.

Our proposals involved the opening up of the ground floor to create a more modern and dynamic interior whilst extending into part of the roof space to create a master bedroom, ensuite and walk-in wardrobe. The rest of the roof space was opened as a raised ceiling providing volumetric interest, the feeling of greater space and allowed the penetration of south and west light (day and evening) directly into the main living space, which opens onto the remodelled courtyard.
